Remodeling Master Bedroom

April 28th, 2008

We all enjoy our bedroom and it is true to say that we all secretly yearn for a nicer bedroom, one that is more than just a place to sleep so remodeling the master bedroom can be very rewarding. When the bedroom is a good size it provides more versatility to enjoy it in other ways a place to relax in during the day or evening and not just at night. The French of course have always led the world in designing sexy bedrooms, and now people everywhere have started to follow their lead and decorate their bedrooms for sensuality as well as other reasons.

The main aspect of change if you remodel your master bedroom in to a more sensual place is the color scheme and you can achieve this by using shades of red, cream and peach. Try using a number of mirrors in areas that will reflect the light supplied by candles and maybe add a few plants; you will achieve shadows that will create an air of mystery. For other the room can be just as easily converted into a room where a good book can be read on a strategically placed chair or on the bed itself; however this idea goes back to the days when bedrooms were used far more than they are today.

Obviously the room lighting is important as it shouldn’t be too bright but at the same time not to dim either, so plenty of soft lighting is the best compromise. A reading room should also have a color theme as well; this will normally mean walls and other areas painted in ivory, antique amber, sage green or a beautiful slate blue, all of which are pleasing on the eye. If your preference is have a room that can be used purely to relax in then remodeling the master bedroom will mean the addition of mirrors combined with extra pillows and landscape paintings; which should help to provide this effect.

If you add the comfortable chair and a standing lamp then you will have a retreat that also doubles as a reading room. Of course when remodeling your master bedroom this way, pictures of your family (preferably in antique brass frames) should be placed around the room to provide a sanctuary like feeling. In a room like this colors that create the best effect are the darker blues, darker browns and the type of green that you see naturally in woodland as these colors produce a warm womb like feeling that is also good for a restful nights sleep.

For those people where space is not an issue when they remodel their master bedroom, why not add a few extra touches like a small desk to write on and perhaps some music to listen to. Small refrigerators in wooden cabinets are also becoming a popular addition along with tea or coffee making facilities in the same way that most nice hotels have. As you spend time remodeling your master bedroom in a way that reflects your lifestyle, it can be a worthwhile project and who knows, you may find yourself spending even more time in this often undervalued room.

Kitchen Remodeling

March 25th, 2008

Kitchen remodeling is certainly a very enticing project, but make sure you go about it with a mind to keeping the costs in check; the possible financial outlay worries most homeowners. Let’s face it, most things we want in life involve money and being able to meet the kitchen remodeling cost is no different. Even if your ideas are for all the best appliances, quality cabinets and worktops seem too high for your budget, it may still be possible for you to enjoy a new kitchen.

Unless you are wealthy, most people face the similar problem of dealing with lowering the cost involved but this does not mean you cannot have this room close to the way you want it. With some careful planning, you should be able to bring your kitchen costs down to a level you can afford comfortably.

One area that soaks up funds is hiring a professional company to carry out the work so try to either reduce this cost or dispense with it altogether. Try not to waste time planning all the changes you want to make until you have a realistic estimate of the kitchen remodeling costs involved especially when you participate in the work.

This is where knowledge of your abilities comes in so if you are someone who is quite handy around the house then you shouldn’t have a problem. It is all too easy to get caught up in the moment and make promises you cannot keep, and then you will have no alternative but to hire a professional kitchen fitter to continue the work at greater expense.

After the labor expense, the other area where you can reduce your kitchen remodeling costs and save money is with the materials and appliances; by dealing direct. It is even possible to buy kitchen equipment second hand or partly used which can actually save you a small fortune and often there can even be some guarantee left on it.

You can do this by looking around locally or placing an advert in the local paper, even speaking to all the local kitchen companies; as they say, nothing venture, nothing gained. Old kitchens cost money to dispose of and suppliers are often happy to sell them, especially when they know the person is eager to keep their kitchen remodeling costs to a minimum.

Carefully acquiring your materials and appliances this way could mean that the kitchen you dreamt of is achievable, with nearly new or hardly used equipment. The only thing that is really stopping you having your kitchen remodeled is whether you can carry out the work yourself!

Bathroom Decorating

March 25th, 2008

Many of us spend more time in the bathroom today than we used to, but the decoration of this room plays an important part in this; why shouldn’t people have a pleasant bathroom to relax in. There are some wonderful bathroom decorating ideas out their and although it may be a functioning room, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be a pleasant place to be. After the bedroom, the bathroom can be one of the most relaxing places in your home so why shouldn’t it be more comfortable and pleasant to the eye.

As a bonus, your bathroom decorating ideas can really be used to impress your friends and neighbors, they will know when they see how you have implemented your designs that you care about your home. The kitchen used to be another place that wasn’t a high priority but all that has changed as the average family spends more time there so why not the bathroom as well.

The chances are that your bathroom decorating ideas will follow the same used in the rest of your house so that every room matches to a degree. If for example your home uses low tables as part of the decoration then it will follow that a low table will look equally as good in the bathroom. Low tables like this are also a good place for books or magazines as who doesn’t like to read when they relax in a warm bath?

The theme idea can also work in reverse so that any good ideas that are used in your restroom could also work in other areas of the house. Why not take that colorful tile that you have used around the hand wash basin into the kitchen for instance.

This can give the home a feel of continuity without making every room feel the same and there are also cost benefits to this as you can spruce up a tired looking room with a few simple techniques that won’t cost the earth. Although tiles are the first item to be considered, there are many more bathroom decorating ideas that can be applied.

Soap trays, dishes and dispensers are commonplace now and can be really decorative. In fact some of the home decoration periodicals have illustrated how easy it is to actually make your own soap trays and dispensers.

An unusual idea came from one magazine which showed how to make dispensers from clay which would not be a material that would automatically spring to mind. Decoration that does not cost a great is always popular so using pleasing prints or photos at strategic places can be effective without any effect on your bank balance. With the materials and information available today, there is no excuse not to turn your bathroom into something very special.

Bathroom Remodeling

Deciding on the right bathroom tile design for your home will not be a simple matter when you start your remodeling project; an idea of what style you are looking for before you choose will always save some time. If you have a large bathroom this can be quite a daunting prospect so it is lucky that the range of styles, finishes and textures, is extensive; this is convenient of course because there will probably something that will suit your style within your budget. Some tile designs are more desirable than others including those that are more traditional like stone, Italian marble and the famous harlequin design but colorful tiles are also becoming more popular.

If you don’t know what the harlequin bathroom tile looks like; imagine a white tile that has smaller black diamond shapes in a grid like pattern imprinted on them and you have the harlequin style. This type of tile is usually in a rectangular shape as opposed to the more common square and if you prefer, it is available with many other color choices.

My favorite is the black and white design as the effect it has is hard to match and always improves the look of a bathroom. To give a really clean and elegant look to your bathroom, why not fit chrome fittings to the bath, shower and hand basin.

The effect this provides can make it look as though you have spent a fortune on your bathroom but chrome and other polished metal fixings can cause problems as they mark easily. This effect however, may not seem so wonderful if you have to spend time polishing the fixings everyday.

I have to say that it is in the classic black on white style that I find the most appealing and timeless. If you have a little more to spend you may want to consider marble in your bathroom tile design and although it is expensive it will provide an unparalleled look and feel which everyone will admire.

A good compromise when funds will not extend to expensive tiles is to have a good bathroom tile that is reasonably priced as the foundation for your bathroom tile design. What makes this idea work is that you can insert more expensive, good quality tiles into your bathroom design that will complement and enhance it without breaking the bank.

Tiling is one of those projects that are best left to professionals if you really want that special touch. Of course you will save a great deal of money if you carry out the tiling yourself. If there are problems, it will waste time and if then you have to bring in a professional, it will cost considerably more to finish your bathroom remodeling project.

Home Remodeling

March 25th, 2008

There are just so many things to consider when you decide on a home remodeling project that you can find the task difficult; delays can easily occur just because no-one can make their mind up as to what design style they like the most. When you decide on remodeling the interior or exterior of your home you also have to consider the expense of completing this task. Unfortunately, for the vast majority of homeowners, the cost is the primary consideration and often it is not possible to have everything within the budget that has been set.

To make this task easier, many people hire a contractor to go through the plans with them to provide a professional opinion of how much money it will cost. The cost of supplies will be a huge chunk of the overall cost so you should decide who is going to take charge for this aspect before the contractor starts any work.

If most of your remodeling is exterior work then it is always advisable to let any neighbors know they may have to put up with some noise and mess for a while. Once you have done this it will be time to measure up exactly what is required for the project but be very careful with this and double check everything as any errors on your part could prove expensive. The materials required for your home remodeling project will need to be ordered in good time so ensure a complete list is drawn up and if you get into trouble, your contractor should be able to assist.

Often a contractor is only called in to consult with the home owners with technical aspects which they have already made plans about. Often contractors that are employed to carry out the work may decide specialized areas of the project would be better served by sub-contractors who are experts in a particular part of the project. Under certain circumstances, a contractor may only provide a quote for a specific part of the project where the homeowner is completing the remainder of the project.

Often people do not want to move so home remodeling is the answer and it usually increases the value of the home at the same time. Many aspects of internal home improvements can be more about what is currently fashionable rather than having practical considerations so it is worth finding out what types of work are being carried out in your area. However, if you are just purely making your home a better place to live in, this remodeling may or may not coincide with what is happening elsewhere.

If you are looking to sell at some stage then the concern of local home improvement fashion trends will be more pertinent.

This can be a dangerous area as there are never any guarantees that once all the effort and cost involved are taken into account there will be profit on the investment. Home remodeling is not only a nice way to increase the value of your home, it is also an activity where you and your family can work together and have some fun.
